After another washout yesterday, the fourth one in this World Cup. Today there was Match 19 between England and West Indies. West Indies’s last match was also no result, while England was coming after defeating Bangladesh at Match 12. England won the toss and elected to field first. The decision was right as they won the match by 8 wickets.
1. West Indies Poor Performance
West Indies started off poorly as Evin Lewis got out on 3rd over. Chris Gayle tried to steady the innings of West Indies. But he got out on 36 on Liam Plunkett. Nicholas Pooran and Shimron Hetmyer have contributed to 89 runs partnership. But Joe Root provided a breakthrough and dented West Indies hopes to score big. Only Nicholas Pooran scored a half-century but got out at 63 on Jofra Archer.
Jofra Archer and Mark Wood took 3 wickets each, with Joe Root taking a couple and Chris Woakes and Liam Plunkett settle with one wicket each.
2. England Dominating Performance
With Jason Roy, had hamstring issue in the first innings, Johny Bairstow has a new opening partner in the form of Joe Root. Both provided England a strong start. Both put together a 95 run opening partnership. Johny Bairstow got out on 45 on Gabriel. England sent Chris Woakes at no. 3. The move was a masterstroke. Both Joe Root and Chris Woakes put together 104 runs match-winning partnership. Chris Woakes got out on 40. But it was too late for the West Indies. Joe Root scored an unbeaten century. England won the match comfortably by 8 wickets with 101 balls remaining.
3. Joe Root – Man Of The Match
For his all-round performance, Joe Root was declared as a man of the match at match 19 of the World Cup. Joe Root took 2 wickets and scored an unbeaten century.
Tomorrow we have two games, Australia will play against Sri Lanka on June 15, at The Oval, London. While South Africa take on Afghanistan from Cardiff. India will Pakistan on Sunday, June 16 at Manchester.
