Match 4: Australia All-Round Performance Give Them A Clinical Win; Watch Key Moments

The first weekend of the 12th edition of the Cricket World Cup had a doubleheader. The first match of the day was the Match 3 of the World Cup played between New Zealand and Sri Lanka in which New Zealand trampled Sri Lanka by 10 wickets. The second match of the day, the Match 4 of the World Cup was between current champions Australia and the World cup Qualifier champion Afghanistan. Austalia won the match by 7 wickets. Earlier in the day, Gulbadin Naib, the captain of Afghanistan won the toss and elected to bat first. Watch the key moments of the match 4.

 

1. Afghanistan Poor Start

Afghanistan started very poorly as both their openers fall out for a duck. But Rahmat Shah tried to steady the innings. Once Rahmat Shah got out, a couple of more wickets falls cheaply and Afghanistan was in trouble with a score of 77 for the loss of 5 wickets.

Then captain Gulbadin Naib and Najibullah Zadran steadied the ship for Afghanistan with the partnership of 83 runs. Najibullah Zadran scored an aggressive fifty. With the help of Rashid Khan cameo, Afghanistan put a respectable total of 207.

 

2. Australian Bowling

Mitchell Starc strikes in his very first over. Marcus Stonis took a couple of wickets with Pat Cummins and Adam Zampa scalps three wickets each. Because of their disciplined bowling, Afghanistan was unable to play their entire quota of their 50 overs and was bowled out in 38.2 overs with a score of 207.

 

3. Australia’s Aggressive Response

Australia started the chase positively. Both David Warner and Aaron Finch scored half-centuries. Aaron Finch scored 66 in just 49 balls including 4 sixes. Gulbadin Naib took the wicket of Aaron Finch. Usman Khawaja didn’t trouble the scorer much and LBW of Rashid Khan. When Australia need just 4 runs, Steve Smith also got out on Mujeeb Ur Rahman on 18.

Then Glenn Maxwell joined David Warner and finished the match. David Warner holds one end and remained unbeatable and scored 89 not out. Australia won the match in 34.5 overs with 91 balls remaining. The clinical performance from the Australian team.

 

4. David Warner – Man Of The Match

David Warner who scored 89 runs of 114 balls and remain not out, became the man of the match.
