Today was Match 40 between India and Bangladesh. India lost their last match day before yesterday. It was India vs England. India lost that match by 31 runs. MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav were criticized by many cricket experts because of lack of intent. This match was crucial for Bangladesh to be in the race of semi-finals. But India was too strong for Bangladesh as India won the match by 28 runs. Earlier India won the toss and elected to bat first.

Today, Indian openers were looking aggressive as compared to their previous match. Rohit Sharma has cleared his intention in the first over when he hammered Mashrafe Mortaza for six in the first over. Rohit Sharma got a life at 9 when Tamim Iqbal dropped a sitter. Both the openers put together the highest opening partnership 180 runs of this World Cup. Rohit Sharma became the second player in the World and first Indian player to score 4 hundred in the single edition of the World Cup.

Rohit got out at 104. Soon KL Rahul also got dismissed at 77. Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant out together 42 runs partnership. Mustafizur Rehman took Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya in a single over. Virat Kohli got out at 26.

But this didn’t stop Rishabh Pant as he scored 3 consecutive boundaries in the very next over. Rishabh Pant played a selfless inning, got out at 48 in just 41 balls.

India made 314 for 9 in their entire 50 overs. MS Dhoni made 35 runs. For Bangladesh Mustafizur Rehman bagged 5 wickets. Shakib Al Hasan, Rubel Hossain, and Soumya Sarkar took a wicket each.

 

2. Bangladesh Fight Back

Bangladesh started cautiously in this run-chase. Tamim Iqbal inside edge gave India their first breakthrough. Mohammed Shami opened the account for India. Hardik Pandya who did not contribute with the bat today sent Soumya Sarkar back to the pavilion.

Shakib Al Hasan continued his dream run in this World Cup as he scored another half-century. He was looking dangerous but no big partnership put pressure on Shakib as he got out at 66. He became the first player to score 500 runs and 10 wickets. Mushfiqur Rahim, Litton Das, and Shabbir Rehman all got a good start but did not convert into the big one. Mohammad Saifuddin played a cameo and scored a half-century but got no support from the other end. He fought hard and scored unbeaten 51. Bangladesh kept on fighting but In the end, but the pressure of run-chase and that too in the World Cup was too much. Bangladesh fell short by 28 runs and got eliminated from World Cup. Bangladesh got all out at 286. Jasprit Bumrah took 4 wickets. Hardik Pandya took 3 wickets. Mohammed Shami, Yuzvendra Chahal, Bhuvneshwar Kumar took a wicket each.

 

3. Rohit Sharma – Man Of The Match

Rohit Sharma for his amazing knock of 104 runs in 92 balls with 5 sixes and 7 fours was declared as a Man of the Match in Match 40. Now the two teams are qualified for the semi-finals. India and Australia. With this loss, Bangladesh is out from the race of World Cup semi-final.

Tomorrow we have England who will play their last match against New Zealand at Chester-le-Street. India will play their last match against Sri Lanka on July 6 at Leeds. Bangladesh will play their last match against Pakistan at Lords on July 5.
