Meet Avani Lekhara: India’s First Double Gold Medal Winning Para Shooter

Avani Lekhara has created history in the Paris Paralympics. She became the first Indian to defend her Gold Medal in the Paralympics. Paralympic shooter Avani Lekhara has secured the gold medal in the 10-meter air rifle women’s SH1 final at the 2024 Paralympics Games. She was the first who brought glory to the country at the Tokyo Paralympics. She has proved that nothing is impossible.

Avani repeated her success in Paris, while fellow Indian shooter Mona Aggarwal claimed the bronze medal. It was also added to India’s medal tally. Avani’s achievement marks a remarkable milestone as she becomes one of India’s deserving Paralympians with two Paralympic gold medals.

Avani Lekhara is from Jaipur, Rajasthan. She is a remarkable athlete. She is known for her incredible determination and resilience. In 2012, at the age of 11, she had a serious car accident that left her in a wheelchair. She was left paralyzed below the waist following a car accident. Her father was the one who encouraged her to use sports as a recovery option too. In adversity also, the strong faith of Avani brought her to archery, which demands immense concentration and skills. She followed the path of Olympic champion Abhinav Bindra. Her decision to move into competitive shooting came in 2015. Because of her talent and hard work, she also quickly succeeded in turning heads domestically and internationally.

Her dreams extend beyond sports. In addition to intense training, she has concentrated on her education. She is completing a five-year law degree from the University of Rajasthan. A student by nature, she gladly focuses on her career and works hard to ensure that it remains a success.
