Mr India Rohit Khandelwal has become the first Indian (and also the first Asian) to be crowned winner at the Mr. World competition at a grand ceremony on 19th july 2016 at Southport Theatre, Floral Hall, Southport, England. Rohit took the title of world's most desirable man from the reigning Mr World, Nicklas Pedersen from Denmark. The competition saw 47 of the best-looking men from around the world competing for the title.
Rohit, who was considered as one of the strongest contenders before the finale, was awarded a whooping cash prize of $50,ooo for winning the coveted title. Fernando Alberto Alvarez Soto from Puerto Rico was titled as the first runner up and Aldo Esparza Ramirez from Mexico was adjudged as the second runner up of the event. The grand finale of Mr World 2016 was jointly hosted by Megan Young, Miss World 2013, Musician and TV Host, Frankie Cena and Jordan Williams, Mr England 2014.
"I still can't believe that I have won the Mr. World title. Being the first Indian ever to win this title internationally makes me immensely proud and ecstatic. It's a dream come true and am very thankful to the Miss India Organization for giving me this opportunity and guiding me throughout my exciting journey. My family, friends and my fans have been a constant support for me and this wouldn't have been possible without the support of my well-wishers," said an ecstatic Rohit after being crowned.
Rohit also bagged the title of Mr. Multimedia at the same event. Apart from Rohit, Mr Scotland won the Extreme challenge, Mr England was the winner of Sports challenge, Mr China won Style and fashion and Poland won the talent challenge. All these winners were fast-tracked to the list of Top 10 finalists of Mr World 2016.
Rohit was born in Hyderabad on 19 August 1989. He completed his graduation from Aurora Degree College. He served as ground staff for SpiceJet Airways and as a technical support assistant at the Dell Computers prior to entering the modelling industry.
Earlier Rohit had won Mr India title at an event held on 23 July 2015 at Club Royalty in Mumbai. He also won two special awards at the contest, "Stay-On Mr Active" and "Provogue Personal Care Best Actor.
