Mahendra Singh Dhoni is a prominent Indian cricketer and former captain of the Indian national team. In addition, he is the current captain of CSK in the IPL. Moreover, he has led India to win three ICC trophies, the most of any Indian captain. He has over 10,000 runs in One Day Internationals. Dhoni is regarded as one of the best cricket finishers and one of the game’s greatest wicket-keepers. MS Dhoni is famous for maintaining his cool under pressure and rarely shows signs of frustration or anger. MS Dhoni’s body language is so calm during matches that he is titled “Captain Cool.” He proved to the world that there is much more to a sport than just skills. MS Dhoni never failed to inculcate in his teammates the knowledge of calm and tranquility.
Here’s Why MS Dhoni Called For Gloves During 2008 Match Against Australia
In the final of the Commonwealth Bank Series in 2008, India was chasing a total of 160 runs against Australia. The match was taking place at Melbourne Cricket Ground. In addition, Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni were on the field. However, when India needed only 10 runs to win, MS Dhoni called for gloves, which was a surprise. In most cases, a call for gloves is a signal from the pavilion to the batsmen on the crease, but MS Dhoni did the opposite. He did so because he needed to pass on a message to the pavilion.
Lots of stories related to Dhoni, literally a World Cup winning captain, but this one is my favorite story. pic.twitter.com/Aj1Xc2yjrB

MSD’s message to his teammates was to not scream and shout in celebration of their victory. He also wanted to maintain his composure and shake hands firmly with their opponent. That had to be surprising for the players at the time.
His point of view on this was that he wanted to send a message to Ponting’s Australia that beating them was not a big deal. India can beat them again and again.
What followed after that – CB series, 2008 BGT, 2010 BGT, World Cup quarter final.

However, the reason behind this is that Dhoni did not want Australia to believe that India thought they were unbeatable. Dhoni wanted India to appear naturally pleased with their victory.
India’s Performance In The 2008 Match Vs. Australia
It was Dhoni’s 15th ODI as captain, and he was in the leadership of a squad facing the world champions. Nonetheless, the performance of his team was outstanding. The Australians were bowled out for 159 in 43.1 overs against Indian pacers. Irfan Pathan, Sreesanth, and Ishant Sharma did an outstanding job. Coming into the batting, India lost several early wickets, leaving them at 102/5 after 28.3 overs. Furthermore, this was during the innings of youngster Rohit Sharma and captain cool. This duo made what appeared to be a difficult and probably impossible fight possible. India won by five wickets with 25 balls remaining. It was India’s first victory at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in 22 years of ODIs versus Australia.
Every generation has a player they can claim as their own. MS Dhoni is the man for us. For more than a decade, Dhoni’s unique batting approach, particularly the famous helicopter shot, gave international bowlers nightmares. He is also famous for his review accuracy. Furthermore, many people have humorously recommended renaming the ‘Decision-Review System’ the ‘Dhoni-Review System.’ India also achieved the number-one ranking in Test cricket under Dhoni’s leadership.
