1. Stakna Monastery
Also known as Stakna Gompa is a Buddhist monastery of the Drugpa sect in Stakna, 21 or 25 kilometers from Leh on the left bank of the Indus River. The monastery is located on top of a hill and making a shape of Tiger’s nose. Hence the name “Stakna” (the meaning of Stakna is Tiger’s nose) was given to it.
2. Stok Monastery
The Stok monastery was founded in the 14th century by Lama Lhawang Lotus. Nearby the monastery there is a museum where you can find the books scriptures related to Buddhism.
3. Rizong Monastery
The Rizong Monastery was founded by the great scholar Gyalwa Tsongkhapa. It is dedicated to Tibetan Buddhism, where Atisha is followed. Atisha reintroduced the purest form of Buddhism in Tibet.
4. Chemrey Monastery
Chemrey Monastery or Chemrey Gompa is a Buddhist monastery, founded in 1664. It is spread in approximately 40 kilometers (25 mi) east of Leh. Currently, it belongs to the Drugpa monastic order.
5. Samstanling Monastery
Founded in 1841 by Lama Tsultim Nyima, the monastery is now under the governance of Rizong monastery. It is located at a remote place and it is a perfect place for the peace seekers.
