Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has set a new record by completing the Eastern Peripheral Expressway in 500 days. First of all, The foundation stone was laid by PM Modi in November 2015. As a result, this will get rid of the rising pollution issues in and around Delhi. Consequently, it will also greatly get rid of the traffic jams and lengthy commuting time.
The New Eastern Peripheral Expressway
The 135 KM Expressway is built with a cost around Rs. 11,000 crores. Almost running between Kundli and Palwal, it will reduce the journey of over 4 hours to just 72 minutes! Furthermore, Vehicles which do not destine to visit Delhi need not enter the city again and can directly be diverted. As a result, this will greatly help in reducing the pollution and traffic problems.
In addition, the Expressway will also have a closed tolling system. The toll will be collected only based on the distance traveled and not the entire length of the Expressway. How cool is that! Furthermore, Electronic toll collection provisions will also be made to make sure free movement of traffic is there.
4 Hours To 72 Minutes
The Expressway also has 8 solar power plants along it which will have a capacity of 4 megawatts. Most noteworthy, The Expressway was inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi on May 27.
It is now open to the public. The first section of the Delhi – Meerut Expressway is now functional. It is an 8.36 KM stretch, built at a cost of around 841.50 crores. In addition, It will start from Nizammudin Bridge and go till Delhi – UP border with 14 lanes.
“The stretch has been completed in a record time of 17 months as against the earlier expected construction period of 30 months. This is the first national highway in the country with 14 lanes and has several features that would reduce pollution. It has a 2.5 metre wide cycle track on either side, a vertical garden on the Yamuna bridge, solar lighting system and drip irrigation for plants at the roadside.”
Gadkari said.
The entire Expressway will be completed by March next year. Furthermore, The total length of the project is 82 KM. The first 27.74 KM consists of 14 lanes and the following will have 6 lanes. In conclusion, The expected budget for this project is around Rs. 4,975 crores. What do you think about this? Let us know your opinions in the comments below.
