Pooja Gehlot is a freestyle wrestler from India. Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari Phogat’s medal victories for India at the 2010 Commonwealth Games served as inspiration for Gehlot. Gehlot switched to wrestling as a result of the success of the Phogat sisters. Currently, Birmingham is where CWG 2022 is going on. Recently, Chirs Hemsworth was also seen appreciating Mirabai Chanu for her achievement. The 12 Indian wrestlers won a medal each, totaling six gold, one silver, and five bronze. One among them was Pooja Gehlot. PM Narendra Modi also appreciated the wrestler. With this, India’s wrestling team’s competitions for the 2022 Commonwealth Games are concluded.

At the Commonwealth Games in 2022, she brought home the bronze medal in the women’s 50 kg competition. Pooja Gehlot started strong with a TSU victory over Christelle Lemofack Letchidjio of Scotland. After that, Rebecca Ndolo Muambo of Cameron gave her a walkover, allowing her to easily advance to the semi-final round. However, she could not win against Canadian Madison Bianca Parks in the last-four clash. Later, she defeated the Scottish competitor 12-2, winning the bronze play-off. In this category, there were just six wrestlers; therefore, it was contested in the Nordic style. Therefore, wrestlers in this match split into two groups and competed with one another.
However, after winning, she got emotional and tweeted on her Twitter account. She expressed her apology to the nation in the tweet. Pooja Gehlot’s wish was for the National Anthem to be played in Birmingham. She wrote,
“I apologize to my compatriots. I wished that the National Anthem be played here (in Birmingham)… But I will learn from my mistakes, and work on them.”
