In the early hours of Sunday morning, a luxury Porsche car, driven by a 17-year-old, crashed into a bike in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar. The accident killed two IT engineers, Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, right away. CCTV film revealed the Porsche was speeding at somewhere around 160 kmph.

 

Teen Celebrates Exam Results With Alcohol

The young driver was supposedly celebrating his class 12 results at a nearby Pub. The CCTV film shows him and his friends drinking at a cozy bar. The legal drinking age in Maharashtra is 25, making it illegal and unlawful for these establishments and pubs to serve alcohol. Also, both bar proprietors have been arrested for serving liquor to a minor.

Witnesses present at the scene recorded that there were three people in the Porsche, yet one ran away from the area after the accident. Every one of the three was reportedly tipsy and drunk. Moreover, police are investigating the reason why the vehicle had no number plate. And how long the temporary plate had been used. The bodies of the victims were sent to their hometowns where they grew up after autopsies at Sassoon General Hospital. Thus the police’s commitment to an intensive investigation goes on as they prepare to move to a higher court to try the teenagers as an adult.

The incident has prompted a critical public backlash. Also, witnesses and the public argue that the bail conditions are too lenient for the gravity of the crime. Thus families of the victims have expressed their grief and sadness and request severe actions to avoid any such incident ahead. Also, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut alleged preferential treatment for the teen at the police station, claiming he was served food. Pune Police quickly moved to make a decision. The minor’s dad, Vishal Agrawal, a real estate developer, was arrested in Aurangabad. He has to deal with penalties under the Juvenile Justice Act resolved for willful neglect and giving intoxicating substances to a minor. The minor driver was granted bail by the Juvenile Justice Board only 15 hours after his arrest. The driver, aged 17 years 8 months, was granted bail by a Pune court within 15 hours with some conditions. He has been asked to write a 300-word essay on accidents. Also, he has to work with traffic police for 15 days and undergo counseling and treatment for his drinking habit. The accident and swift bail have sparked massive public outrage. Therefore the board imposed conditions like mandatory counselling and a de-addiction program. Also, Pune Police have applied to try the minor as an adult, underlining the crime’s seriousness.
