The incident traces back to the night of May 18-19. The 17-year-old, celebrating his Class XII results, was driving a Porsche extremely fast at around 200 kmph. The car then crashed into a bike, immediately killing two IT experts Anish Awadhia and Ashwini Koshta. Both were from Madhya Pradesh. Regardless of initial claims by the Agarwal family that their driver was in the driver’s seat, the reality at last disentangled.

Juvenile Justice Under Fire

The minor was quickly granted bail rather than a strict action, igniting the nation in a huge shock. He was asked to write a 300-word essay on road safety, assist traffic police for 15 days, and go for counseling for alcohol use. Also following public outcry, the Juvenile Justice Board sent him to a Juvenile home until June 5. Check more details on the cancelation of the granted bail.

The Arrests Pile Up

As of now, seven individuals, including the minor’s dad and granddad, have been arrested. This includes the owners and staff of two pubs that served alcohol to the minor. CCTV footage from the night shows the teenager making up a bill of Rs 48,000 on alcohol only an hour and a half before the tragic accident.

Bars Under Scrutiny

The incident has incited Pune authorities to get serious about bars abusing rules. Actions were made against 32 establishments. Therefore led to protests from over 2500 pub employees. Also, they argue that the entire industry shouldn’t suffer just because of the mistakes of a few.

Police Mishandling The Pune Porsche Crash Case

Adding to the controversy, two policemen have been suspended for failing to immediately report the incident. Inspector Rahul Jagdale and ASI Vishwanath Todkari were accused of giving the minor special treatment and not informing their seniors about the accident on time. Therefore this high-speed tragedy highlights the issues of road safety as well as the lengths to which some will go to protect their own. Thus bringing up issues about justice and accountability in high-profile cases.
