Rahul Gandhi has been appointed as the leader of the opposition. Following the formal notification from the Congress to the Lok Sabha Secretariat designating Rahul Gandhi as the Leader of Opposition, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla formally acknowledged Gandhi’s appointment. Rahul Gandhi, the head of the Indian National Congress, has been formally recognized as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, starting on June 9, as per a notification released by the Lok Sabha Secretariat. Rahul Gandhi will take over as head of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha after ten years. Even though it held fewer than 10% of the seats in the Lower House, the Congress was unable to win the title of second-largest party in the Lok Sabha in both 2014 and 2019.

“The Leader of the Opposition occupies a seat in the front row left to the Chair. He/she also enjoys certain privileges on ceremonial occasions like escorting the Speaker-elect to the rostrum and a seat in the front row at the time of the Address by the President to both the Houses of Parliament”, a government booklet that is present in the Parliament library described.
Rahul Gandhi will have the same pay, benefits, and standing as a Cabinet minister in his position as Leader of the Opposition. He will receive a salary of Rs 3.3 lakh. In addition to protection that is on par with that of a Cabinet inister, maybe including a Z+ security cover. Rahul Gandhi will also receive a government house fit for a Cabinet minister.

The Salary and Allowances of Leaders of Opposition in Parliament Act, 1977 established the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) as a legislative post in India. The leader of the opposition party with the most members in the Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha is that person.
