Ranveer Allahbadia Controversy: YouTuber ‘BeerBiceps’ Apologizes For Derogatory Remarks, Draws A Warning From Devendra Fadnavis

Popular Youtuber and Podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, widely known as BeerBicepes is now in controversy. The controversy sparked after he commented on his roast show India’s Got Latent. His remarks have led to a police complaint filed by two Mumbai lawyers, adding legal trouble to the ongoing debate.

Devendra Fadnavis Addressed The Issue

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis addressed the issue, stating that while he hasn’t watched the video clip himself, anyone who crosses the line of decency will have to face consequences. His response comes amid growing criticism and discussions about the boundaries of humor and free speech. A case has been filed against Ranveer Allahbadia for making such a statement. Devendra Fadnavis said,

I have been informed about this, though I have not watched it yet. I learned that it was very vulgar and wrong. Everyone has freedom of speech, but this freedom ends when we encroach upon others’ freedom. Everyone has limits; if anyone crosses them, action will be taken.”

What Ranveer Allabadia Said?

A short clip from the show, which is now viral, shows Ranveer Allahbadia asking a contestant, “Would you rather watch your parents have s*x every day for the rest of your life or join in once and stop it forever.”

A major controversy erupted after this statement was made on India’s Got Latent. Two Mumbai-based lawyers have filed a police complaint against him and others involved in the show, alleging that the remarks made were objectionable and offensive.

Earlier, Ranveer Allahbadia’s remarks triggered massive outrage on social media, with many claiming vulgarity was being passed off as comedy in shows such as ‘India’s Got Latent’.

Among those to speak out is journalist and lyricist Neelesh Misra. Sharing a clip of Ranveer Allahbadia’s remark, he said creators of the platform have “zero sense of responsibility“.

I am also not surprised at all that four people at the desk – and lots in the audience – celebrated this and had a great laugh. You, the audience, normalized and celebrated this and people like these,” he said in a post on X.

Decency is not incentivized in India – by platforms or audiences – and creators are stooping lower and lower for audience reach and revenue. Banal, crass, and insensitive are words only for boring uncool people. These creators can say anything in the name of freedom of speech and get away with it. Again, meet the creators who are shaping our country’s creative economy,” Mr Misra said.

Congress leader Supriya Shrinate said the fact that such comments draw applause must worry us. “This isn’t creative. It’s a pervert. And we can’t normalize perverse behavior as cool. The fact that this sick comment met loud applause must worry us all.”

Ranveer Allahbadia Apologized

The 31-year-old posted an apology video on X. He wrote in the caption,

“I shouldn’t have said what I said on India’s got latent. I’m sorry. My comment wasn’t just inappropriate, it was not even funny. Comedy is not my forte, I am just here to say sorry. Obviously this is not how I wish to use it. I am not going to give any context or justification or reasoning behind whatever happened. I am just here for an apology. I personally had a lapse in judgement. It wasn’t cool on my part. The podcast is watched by people of all ages, I don’t want to be the kind of person that takes that responsibility lightly and family is the last thing I would ever disrespect.”
