What Is A Water Diet?
Rohit, in an interview, continued to explain the impacts of the diet he followed. But what exactly is a water diet? Well, you guys are definitely curious to know about it. Isn’t it? So, let’s just discuss about it.
A water diet is also known as water fasting. The diet where you only drink water for the time, say, 24 to 72 hours. You may have heard about the fruits and vegetables diet but the water diet works differently. It focuses on drinking a lot of water, which helps you lose weight.
How Does A Water Diet Help In Weight Loss?
We know that drinking water helps you feel full, boosts your metabolism, and supports your overall health. But how do doctors see it? The water diet works on the idea that drinking water can suppress your appetite and make you eat less during meals. It also helps your body burn more calories, as explained by Dr. Shrey Srivastav, an internal medicine expert at Sharda Hospital in Greater Noida.
How Does It Work?
- Drinking water before meals makes you feel less hungry and eat less.
- Water has zero calories, which makes it a healthier choice.
- When you drink water, your body burns a few extra calories to warm it to the body’s temperature.
No doubt that a water diet can help you lose weight, but it should be properly balanced with nutrients. We definitely recommend that you always consult a doctor before starting any new diet.
Does Water Diet Harm Your Body Organ?
A water diet seems like a quick fix for weight loss, but the bitter truth is it can have severe consequences for your body. Dr. Bhumesh Tyagi, Senior Consultant in Internal Medicine at Sharda Hospital, highlights the alarming risks of the water diet:
- Nutrient Deficiency: Where are the vitamins, minerals, and proteins needed to function your organs and tissues properly?
- Muscle Breakdown: Starvation also leads to various changes in your body, such as muscle breakdown, including the heart muscle. This may result in weakness of the heart and poor cardiac muscles.
- Low Blood Sugar (Hypoglycemia): Lack of glucose is not beneficial to the brain and the body in any way they are part of the body. Various possible symptoms are associated with a human, including dizziness, often feeling tired, and loss of physical and mental capability.
- Kidney Damage: An imbalance of electrolytes and reduced blood flow can put immense strain on your kidneys, potentially leading to kidney failure.
- Digestive Problems: Lack of food makes the digestive organs smaller, and capacity thus reduces the organ’s ability to work as expected.
Dr Tyagi warns about the extended starvation that can further result in organ failure, weakened immune system, and slowed metabolism. These effects not only make the diet unsustainable but also dangerous.
The water diet may sound tempting, but you are doubling the risk as well. Before considering any drastic change in your diet, it is important to take advice from your doctor. A balanced, nutritious diet is the best way to achieve long-term health and weight loss without risking your organs.
