Saina Nehwal Defeated P.V.Sindhu In Finals; 26th Gold Medal For India In Gold Coast

Saina Nehwal and P.V. Sindhu made India proud when they reached the finals of badminton event in Commonwealth games. The Commonwealth games are being played in Gold Coast, Australia. Since it both of the finalists was Indians, team India was sure to have 2 more medals in its collection.

But we had yet to see, which of the two ladies end up grabbing the gold. With the help of her experience, Saina Nehwal pulled off the victory over a comparatively less experienced P.V. Sindhu.

 

A Thrilling Contest

In a 56-minutes thrilling contest, Nehwal defeated Sindhu by winning two straight sets. The competition was stiff in the first set it ended Saina winning it by 21-18. However, in the second set, P.V. Sindhu took an early lead but Saina Nehwal closed the gap and won the set by 23-21 while eventually seizing the victory.

With this win, Saina became the first Indian shuttler to bag 3 gold medals in Commonwealth games. She has already won the gold medal in the mixed category of Commonwealth games Gold Coast. Before that, she won the gold medal back in 2010 during the Commonwealth games of Delhi.

 

26th Gold For India

India has been holding the place in the medal tally. With these two medals, the number of total medals for India in 2018 CWG has become 63 including 26 Gold, 17 Silver and 20 Bronze.

 

She Started Strong

Saina Nehwal started strong in the finals. Right from the beginning, she tried to keep Sindhu on the back foot. She gained 8-4 lead which Sindhu tried to chase down. She put up a great performance and has almost closed the gap but Saina Nehwal got this one.

In the next set, P.V. Sindhu was leading by 19-17. Saina Nehwal tied the score before the set was deuced at 21-21. Nehwal then took two straight points and sealed the deal.
