It needs strong courage to raise the voice against anti nationals. Not everyone can do it very easily. We hear daily so many cases that victims hide the truth in the name of fear.
But this courageous 20-year-old girl Gurmehar Kaur, student of Sri Ram College also daughter of Kargil martyr Captain Mandeep Singh has initiated a social media campaign, “I am not scared of ABVP”, just after a few days of the violent clashes that took place in DU’s Ramjas college.
Gurmehar Kaur, daughter of Kargil martyr Captain Mandeep Singh, changed her Facebook profile picture holding a placard which read “I am a student from Delhi University. I am not afraid of ABVP. I am not alone. Every student of India is with me. #StudentsAgainstABVP”.
In her face book status, she said, “The brutal attack on innocent students by ABVP is very disturbing and should be stopped. It was not an attack on protesters, but an attack on every notion of democracy that is held dear in every Indian’s heart. It is an attack on ideals, morals, freedom and rights of every person born to this nation. The stones that you pelt hit our bodies, but fail to bruise our ideas. This profile picture is my way of protesting against the tyranny of fear.”
The literature student’s classmates and peers started sharing the post, prompting students from various universities across the country to change their profile pictures with the same placard, as the initiative went viral.
Kaur, in one of her earlier videos which had gone viral in May, had posted: “Pakistan did not kill my dad, war killed him.”
Even former cricketer Virender Sehwag joined the fray saying: “Bat me hai Dum! #BharatJaisiJagahNahi.”
Tweeples thanked Virender Sehwag for his stand against anti nationals and JNU brigade.
Kaur, however, announced early Tuesday morning that she is withdrawing from the campaign as she’s ‘gone through enough’. She tweeted, “I’m withdrawing from the campaign. Congratulations everyone. I request to be left alone. I said what I had to say.. I have been through a lot and this is all my 20 year self could take :)”. She urged students to go to the protest march taking place today at Khalsa College in large numbers.
The world has witnessed a true act of bravery once again. What do you say?
