‘Ladli Behna Yojana’ became a game changer for the BJP Party. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appeared as a leading force in Madhya Pradesh. The saffron party is leading in 160 of the 230 seats. This victory is significantly attributed to the implementation of the ‘Ladli Behna Yojana’ by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
Ladli Behna Yojana
The ‘Ladli Behna Yojana’ is a key welfare scheme focused on women who are residents of Madhya Pradesh and are between 23 to 60 years of age. The group played a crucial role in the BJP’s strategy. Under this scheme, eligible women from poor families receive an amount of Rs 1000 monthly in their bank accounts. According to the scheme, the benefit was available to widows, divorced, and abandoned women. While the congress party criticized it as an electoral tactic, BJP leaders defended it as a step toward economic independence of women and empowering women.
This scheme aimed to make women self-reliant and empower them to address their health and nutrition requirements by providing them with financial support.
Women Who Are Not Eligible
Women who are income taxpayers or women whose family members are government employees are ineligible for this scheme. Even unmarried women cannot avail of this scheme. Also, women whose family members are elected public representatives can not avail of this scheme. Lastly, women from families with an annual income of more than Rs 2.5 lakh are not eligible to benefit from this scheme.
How Does The Scheme Work?
A team of 40 members was formed to complete the registration of over 1.25 crore of women. The scheme also pulled off a phenomenal task of crediting the assistance monthly in 99 percent of the women’s accounts within just 100 days; they tried to do this. “The backbone of this scheme implementation is the Aadhaar database,” said Abhijit Agarwal, Managing Director, MP State Electronics Development Corporation Limited. When the Congress announced a monthly assistance of Rs 1500 in the run-up to the assembly polls, the ruling BJP also twisted the ‘Ladli Behna’ policy and hiked the amount to Rs 1250.
Chief Minister Shivraj Chouhan said the amount will gradually increase to Rs 3000. This scheme worked because only 38.5% of women in the state own their mobile phones of their own. The number of women’s workforce in the state was also dreary. So ‘Ladli Behan Yojana’ ensured that the money only goes to women’s accounts. The scheme worked for women, and as a result, the BJP Party showed an exemplary dedication towards people.
BJP has won big in Madhya Pradesh, astonishing many who expected people to be tired of the two-decade rule. They pulled off this win with lively campaigns, energetic rallies, and clever tactics.
