Small Plane Crash Near By Chruch In La Mesa: Two People Injured

On Sunday afternoon in La Mesa, the Heartland Fire And Rescue Department responded to a small aviation crash that had occurred close to a church. According to authorities, a light aircraft carrying two persons went down on Sunday in La Mesa. Read on to know more.

Damaged Caused

According to Andy McKellar with Heartland Fire & Rescue, the plane crashed around 3 p.m. in the parking lot behind the church, went through the chain link fence, descended a steep incline, and rolled down a block of Lake Murray Blvd.

Within three minutes, the first crew showed up. According to a news release from the fire department, the plane’s two occupants were men in their 50s. With assistance from first responders, one of the males was able to ascend the hill and reach the ambulance. The second man had to be rescued with the help of a stretcher and a rope and pulley system.

Two people were injured moderately and brought to Sharp Grossmont Hospital. There were no further reported injuries in this episode.

Post-Accident Effects

According to San Diego Gas & Electric, the accident brought down multiple power lines, cutting off electricity to hundreds of San Diegans. The utility provider is striving to get those consumers their electricity back.

It was unclear right first whether the aircraft crashed or made a difficult landing. Since the collision might have been considerably worse, the pilot did a fantastic job of selecting a site to try to land, according to the captain of Heartland Fire. There are many housing developments and apartment buildings close to the church.

FAA’s Take On La Mesa Plane Crash

One resident told ABC 10News that the crash sounded like a truck colliding with something from their flat. Due to the plane’s damage to certain power lines, there was a brief loss of power in the region.

The single-engine Cessna 185 was the plane that crashed, the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement. According to the FAA, the plane took off from San Diego’s Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport.

“The NTSB and FAA will look at it. The NTSB will oversee the investigation, which will also offer any updates, according to the statement.

According to Heartland Fire & Rescue, it took roughly 40 minutes in all to respond to the incident. Heartland Fire received assistance from American Medical Response, San Diego Fire, and the La Mesa Police Department.
