BCCI President and former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly praised Virat Kohli for his excellent Asia Cup performance. Though India got knocked out from the Asia Cup in Super 4, Virat Kohli has scored two fifties and a hundred. A century came after a long 1019 days. It has been a long time since Virat Kohli was without a century, almost three years. His last century was against Bangladesh in a Test match in November 2019. His 122 not out against Afghanistan in Asia Cup is his first in T20 Internationals. In July 2022, Sourav said that Virat had to find his form back. After the Asia Cup, Sourav Ganguly said that Virat Kohli is more skillful than him as a player.

On the YouTube channel TRS Clips, Sourav Ganguly spoke about Virat Kohli with reference to his skillset. He also predicted that Virat would have more International match appearances than him at the end of his career. Sourav Ganguly said,

“The comparison should be in terms of skill as a player. I think he is more skillful than I’m. We played in different generations, and we played a lot of cricket. I played in my generation, and he will continue playing, probably playing more games than I did. At present moment, I have played more than what he has but he’ll get past that. He is tremendous.”

During his interaction, Sourav Ganguly also talked about how the new generation of cricketers plays more aggressively than the previous lot. Sourav explained that the game has also changed over time. He continued,

“Yeah, the game is different, the game is faster… shorter and faster, more sixes, more boundaries, not many deliveries left outside the off stump. So the game has changed.”

Before the start of the Asia Cup, Sourav had predicted Virat Kohli would return to form. He added that a player like Virat with such caliber would not undergo such an extended lean patch. In a media event in Kolkata, Sourav said,

“He’s a very big player, there for a long time. I know he has his own formula to score runs. It’s not possible that players of his stature can’t have such a long, lean patch; I know he will definitely score runs. If he was not a great player, he would not have scored so many runs for so long.”

Virat Kohli’s return to form is a big boost for Team India before the World Cup. Team India will start its campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan on October 23rd.
