Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended the Indian cricket team for winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and bringing the trophy “home in style.” India won the ICC trophy for the first time since 2013. India defeated South Africa by 7 runs in the final. Rohit Sharma and his team took home the ICC trophy after 11 years. “Champions! Our team brings the T20 World Cup home in style! We are proud of the Indian Cricket Team,” Prime Minister Modi wrote on X.

Prime Minister Modi congratulated the squad in a video message, saying that they had won both the World Cup and the “hearts of crores of Indians”. The fact that they weren’t defeated in a single match was no minor feat, he remarked.
“Congratulations to India for this magnificent win. Today, 140 crore countrymen are proud of your fantastic performance. You won the World Cup and also the hearts of crores of Indians. You didn’t lose even one match; that’s not a small feat. I congratulate you. You have achieved a spectacular victory,” PM appreciated them in Hindi.

It was Rahul Dravid’s last match as Team India’s coach and God, what a perfect fairytale end to his stint. After the match, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli also announced their retirement from the T20 International. It was the last match for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for Team India in T20Is. Narendra Modi talked to them and thanked them for their contribution to Indian cricket.
