Today, on the occasion of World Health Day, filmmaker and writer Tahira Kashyap took to Instagram to share a glimpse of her life. Ayushmann Khurrana’s wife, Tahira, revealed that her breast cancer has now relapsed after 7 years. In 2018, she was first diagnosed with breast cancer.

Tahira Kashyap shared a post on Instagram with the caption, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. When life becomes too generous and throws them again at you, you squeeze them calmly into your favourite kala khatta drink and sip it with all the good intentions. Because, for one, it’s a better drink, and two, you know you will give it your best once again.”
She added by saying that her seven years of breast cancer remission have now relapsed. She further added, “I’d like to go with the latter and suggest the same for everyone who needs to get regular mammograms. Round 2 for me… I still got this.”
What Does Cancer Relapse Mean?
A relapse of cancer is called recurrence when a patient’s cancer reappears following a period of improved health status. The recurrence of cancer may develop during a span of months up to years after apparently successful treatment.
- Some cancer cells evade detection during treatment and stay in the human body.
- The undetectable cancer cells develop into new tissue that results in cancer recurrence.
- Local recurrence occurs when the relapse develops at the original cancer site, regional recurrence happens when it develops near the first cancer site, and distant or metastatic recurrence happens when it develops in an entirely new area of the body.
The Reason For The Recurrence Of Breast Cancer
Certain cancer cells manage to survive treatment and stay within the body during initial care, thus leading to disease relapse. A trajectory of months to years may allow these undetectable remaining cells to grow into recurrences of the cancer.
Common Reasons Why Cancer Relapses:
- Small cancer cells remain after surgical procedures, as well as chemotherapy and radiation therapies, because they survive undetected.
- Resistance occurring within cancer is shared by a few cells that tolerate therapeutic interventions because of their strength or treatment-resistant qualities.
