On Sunday, Tamayo Perry, a lifeguard and professional surfer passed away. The Pirates of the Caribbean actor Tamayo Perry died following an attack by a shark off the shore of Oahu. Whilst surfing at Malaekahana Beach on Oahu’s North Shore in the early afternoon, Perry was attacked. Perry, an actor and stuntman was 49. Tamayo Perry worked as a lifeguard for Honolulu Ocean Safety and appeared in television shows “Hawaii Five-0” and “Lost” in addition to the fourth “Pirates of the Caribbean” film.
The Tragic Incident Of Tamayo Perry’s Death
According to a statement from Shayne Enright, the spokesperson for the Honolulu Emergency Services Department, he was declared dead after rescuers carried him ashore. Just before 1 p.m., when Mr. Perry was surfing near Goat Island on Oahu’s northeast shore a 911 report concerning what seemed to be a deadly shark attack was received, according to the statement. The man’s body seems to have been bitten by sharks several times, according to the 911 caller. According to Ms. Enright, lifeguards took Mr. Perry’s corpse to Malaekahana Beach, and there he was declared lifeless.
The Shark Attack
What species of shark attacked Mr. Perry was unknown. The most common shark species in Hawaii’s waters include scalloped hammerhead, whitetip reef, sandbar, and rarely tiger sharks, as reported by the state’s Department of Land and Natural Resources. Shark warnings have been issued by Ocean Safety in the vicinity of Mr. Perry’s death. Shark attacks are extremely unusual; according to the department’s record of shark events. Nine individuals, including Mr. Perry, have died from shark attacks in Hawaii since 1995. There have been three prior shark encounters around the state this year.

Social media was flooded with condolences to the Hawaii-born Perry when word of his passing spread. Kurt Lager, acting chief of the ocean safety department, explained Perry as a world-class surfer and “a lifeguard loved by all.”
“Tamayo’s personality was infectious,” Lager stated. “And as much as people loved him, he loved everyone else more.”
Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi also appreciated Perry as a “legendary waterman”.
Further, the surfing magazine Stab titled Mr. Perry “one of the most durable and committed pipeline specialists of all time.”
Who Was Tamayo Perry?
Tamayo Perry was raised in a little community east of the North Shore. He was born on the Hawaiian island of Oahu on April 15, 1975.
After winning the 1999 Pipeline Masters trials, Mr. Perry was able to beat the top challenger for the world title in the most renowned waves in the world, earning him a seat in the main event. Additionally, he participated in the Billabong Pro Teahupoo in Tahiti, where he faced off against legends. Further, legends there were Andy Irons and Kelly Slater. Legendary surfers Gerry Lopez and Tom Carroll, who both surfed Pipeline, one of the top surf breaks in the world, affected Mr. Perry’s development of his distinctive style of tube riding.
According to authorities, Mr. Perry began working as a lifeguard with Honolulu Ocean Safety in 2016. Additionally, Mr. Perry tried a career in Hollywood, appearing in the surfing film, “Blue Crush”, and a brief part in “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” (2011). He also performed stunts for the 2004 film “The Big Bounce.”
