After a long tiring day, everyone likes to sleep. Nobody needs a reason for sleeping. Sleeping is necessary to relax your body and keep you fresh from fatigue. Be it students or working professionals or seniors everyone should sleep for 7-8 hours. But do you know what happens when your body fell asleep? Let us check out the things our body do when we fell asleep.
1. Brain Processes The Day Information
If you think if you are sleeping, your brain is also sleeping then you are wrong. Actually, when you sleep, your brain keeps on working, it sorts and stores the information from the day. This process is very important for long term memories. The brain stores all the useful information so that it can be used later. Also, it forgets the things which are not less important.
2. Muscles Paralyze
Sometimes it happens that you wake up in the morning and find that your body is not moving. It can last for several seconds to several minutes. While you fell asleep, you cycle through different periods of sleep, non-rapid eye movement sleep (NREM) and rapid eye movement sleep (REM). During REM sleep you witness most realistic dreams. This is the stage when your muscles get temporarily paralyzed. According to scientists, this happens so that you don’t physically act out your dreams.
3. Sleep Walking
Sleepwalking is the opposite of sleep paralyze. Most behaviors related to sleep are harmless, but sleepwalking can be a dangerous issue. As it can lead to any major issue like walking out of the house or fall from the stairs etc. Doctor Winter says, “With sleepwalking, you’re coming out of sleep just enough for your body to move, but not enough for your brain to be awake”.
4. Hormones Flood Your Body
While you fell asleep there are different hormones your body releases for various purposes. The pituitary gland releases the hormones which help for cell reproductions, it helps the body to repair and grow. The pineal gland releases Melatonin which controls your sleep pattern and level increase at night time, making you feel sleepy.
5. Eyes Rolling
As we have already discussed, that muscles of the body are paralyzed while sleeping. But eyes continue to move during a sleep type Rapid Eye Movement (REM). It is the time of sleep we actively dream.
