It is often said that the majority of the oldest companies are located in Japan. Well, it is absolutely true. Located in Osaka, Japan, Kongō Gumi is as old as 578 AD. Furthermore, it is safe to say that it is the oldest still in operation companies worldwide. It is basically a construction firm that was once owned by a family. However, in 2006 due to hard times, it became a subsidiary of the Takamatsu Construction Group.

 

2. Nishiyama Onsen Keiunkan

The second oldest company is also, of course, Japan-based. Nishiyama Onsen Keiunkan is as old as 705 AD. Furthermore, it is located in Hayakawa, Japan, and is a hot spring hotel. Back in 2011, it was hailed as the world’s oldest hotel by the Guinness Book of Records. In addition, what is interesting to note is that all these years, it is run by the same family.

 

3. Koman Hotel

Komal is another oldest company that is yet again located in Japan. It is as old as 717 AD. What is worth noting is that this hotel was first established by a man named Hiuke Gonnokami. He was inspired to start the hotel after dreaming of four gods.

 

4. Hōshi Ryokan

Hōshi Ryokan is the third oldest hotel in the world and, of course, the fourth oldest company. This traditional Japanese hotel is located in the Awazu Onse region and is as old as 718 AD. About 46 generations of the same family have managed this hotel.

 

5. Genda Shigyō

This company is as old as 771 AD. Furthermore, it is a ceremonial paper goods company. Furthermore, it specializes in mizuhiki, colorful paper twisted into cords. These cords are used at events such as funerals and weddings.
