New Twist In JioHotstar Saga: Dubai Siblings Claim They Bought Domain From Developer

The JioHotstar.com website story has taken a twist which was surprising and quite astonishing to many. Two young children from Dubai are now claiming that they purchased the domain through the auction. The domain JioHotstar has created a buzz in India.

Here’s what happened from the beginning; When the Reliance-owned Disney+ Hotstar and JioCinema struck their partnership deal, the world expected the new streaming service to automatically go with www.JioHotstar.com. There was a hitch. An app developer from Delhi had already purchased this domain in 2023. He thought that these firms may combine someday.

Delhi Developer’s Smart Move

On the website, the developer had penned a letter to Reliance and demanded Rs 1 crore for the domain name. He said that he intended to start a business with this money to fund his MBA at the prestigious Cambridge University in the United Kingdom. When one of his employees from Reliance called and refused to pay this amount. However, the company stated that he was an imposter. The domain had infringed on its trademark and told him that they would sue him.

Dubai Siblings Bought JioHotstar

But on Saturday, consumers visiting the JioHotstar.com website witnessed a message with entirely contrasting connotations. Rather than the developer’s letter, they received a note from two kids, Jainam and Jivika, a brother and a sister who live in Dubai. They claim to have a website dedicated to their show called jainamjivikafuntime.com. Jainam is 13 and Jivika, his sister, is only 10. The siblings claim that they purchased the site to aid the Delhi developer. This has introduced a twist that forms another episode to what was an already bizarre issue involving domain names and mergers among business giants.

This is evident as domain names (website addresses turn ‘precious’ when big firms intend to merge or start up new services. It is also rather curious to check how different people starting from the Delhi developer and ending with the Dubai-based children – can be engaged in such business issues.

The story also demonstrates when organizations like Reliance meet the challenge of there being someone else in possession of a domain name they would wish to acquire. Rather than offer the asked price they prefer to litigate if they reasonably believe that their trademarks are being infringed.

All people are now anticipating what further actions will be taken in this unprecedented situation. Will they try to get the domain name from the Dubai siblings? Will the siblings provide more details on why they purchased the item? But what did the Delhi developer do to his plans of studying at Cambridge? These questions persist as they still unwind; we do not have the answers to some of the many questions posed.

Reliance’s Response

This case is fascinating because it involves such a mix of players. A large business house in India i.e. Reliance, a worldwide entertainment conglomerate (Disney), a Delhi-based developer who wants to study further in a foreign country, and currently two children from Dubai. They illustrated this by showing how even in today’s technologically advanced business environment, children can become involved in relevant business events.

It is possible to buy potentially valuable domain names such as what the Delhi developer did creating interesting situations. But, it also proves that using someone else’s trademark in your domain name may land you in legal trouble, as with Reliance.

Letter On JioHotstar Website

JioHotstar

“Hello! We are Jainam and Jivika – siblings from Dubai, UAE, on a mission to make a difference. Even though we’re just kids, we believe that age is only a number when it comes to spreading kindness and positivity. Our recent journey began during our summer holidays when we left our home in Dubai for 50 unforgettable days in India. We had a purpose: to connect with children from various backgrounds, share our love for learning, teach skills for studying and setting goals, and inspire them to dream big.

Throughout our journey, we were met with inspiring moments and new friendships. We taught kids not only about studying but also about having the courage to set ambitious goals. Together, we laughed, learned, and grew, creating memories that we’ll treasure forever. This website is our way of sharing those memories with you – through photos, videos, and stories from our Seva journey. We hope it brings you closer to the incredible kids we met and encourages you to spread kindness in your own special way.

Along the way, people showed their appreciation through gifts, blessings, and even small donations, which we collected over our travels. When we returned to Dubai, we used a portion of this collection to support a young software developer from Delhi by purchasing this domain for his benefit. Through sharing our journey here, we aim to inspire others and keep the domain open for future sale to anyone who wants to continue this positive mission. And one more thing – we love taking on new challenges! Make sure to watch our videos where we’ve shared some of these fun challenges, and we hope they inspire you to try something new too.”

Three Way Affair

Now, what was originally a story of owning an Indian domain name has evolved into a three-way affair. It involves people of all ages and dealing with issues of business strategy, legal rights, and, most of all, the value of today’s digital assets.
