Carelessness, a lack of dedication, and dishonesty can all lead to failure to complete tasks efficiently. One such instance can be found in Bihar. However, it becomes considerably bigger when all of this is carried out by government officials and others involved in public dealing.

A bridge being constructed over the Ganga in the Bhagalpur district of Bihar at a cost of Rs. 1716 crore collapsed on Sunday. As a result, the four-lane bridge between Sultanganj in Bhagalpur and Aguwani in Khagaria district fell for the second time. The state government has investigated the event.

Look how the bridge collapsed with a deafening sound.

The Massive Failure

The bridge’s structure shattered last year due to high winds and rain. The bridge’s completion date has been missed eight times since it was set in 2014. According to eyewitnesses, numerous guys were working on the bridge when it began to collapse. So yet, no reports of casualties have been reported.

The bridge was scheduled to open in 2019. On February 23, 2014, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar lay the groundwork for the Aguwani Ghat bridge in Khagaria. Mr. Kumar launched the project, which began in 2016, on March 9, 2015.

Previous Fails

The work was supposed to be finished by March 2019. However, even 25% of it couldn’t be done effectively by then. The deadline was later extended by the State Government to March 2020, then to 2022. Instead of penalizing the building business for the postponement, the government extended the deadline.

The bridge’s superstructure between pillars 4 and 6 collapsed on April 30, 2022, owing to high winds and rain. Serious concerns were made regarding the building work at the time, but no measure was taken against the corporation. Instead, extra time was provided to the corporation to finish the bridge construction. The bridge is significant since it connects Bihar’s north and south.

Measures Against The Bridge Collapse In Bihar

Soon after learning of the bridge collapse, the Chief Minister summoned officials from the road construction department and directed them to launch an investigation, in addition to taking stern punishment against those involved. The road building department is overseen by Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, who briefed the media later that evening, stressing that harsh punishment will be taken against anyone found guilty.
