Meet Vaibhav Suryavanshi: 13-Year-Old Sensation Bought By Rajasthan Royals For Rs 1.10 Crore In IPL Auction

At just 13, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has achieved what most can only dream of. He becomes the youngest Indian ever to be bought in an IPL auction. Rajasthan Royals snapped him up for a whopping Rs 1.10 crore, recognizing his incredible potential.

From the list, the name of a 13-year-old boy Vaibhav Suryavanshi from Bihar surprised everyone. Vaibhav Suryavanshi was recently selected for the Under-19 squad for the forthcoming 2024 Asian Cricket Council (ACC) under-19 Asia Cup.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi was born on March 27, 2011, in Bihar’s Tajpur village. Vaibhav Suryavanshi started his journey in cricket when he was four with his father Sanjeev, a farmer by profession. His father noticed his passion for cricket. He then decided to be with him by building a small playing area for Vaibhav.

When Vaibhav turned 9, Sanjeev enrolled him in a cricket academy in the nearby town of Samastipur. Vaibhav said in a chat with Times of India,

“After practicing for two-and-a-half years there, I gave Under-16 trials for the Vijay Merchant Trophy. I was on standby due to my age. By God’s grace, I started coaching under Manish Ojha sir, a former Ranji player. He has taught me a lot and whatever I am today, it is because of him.”

Vaibhav was handed his first-class debut in Bihar Ranji Trophy 2023-2024 Elite Group B, in a clash against a strong Mumbai side in Patna in January 2024. Vaibhav was only 12 years old when he played in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy for Bihar, scoring around 400 runs in just five matches. Aged just 12 years and 284 days at the time, Vaibhav Suryavanshi also became the youngest Indian to make a first-class debut since 1986 and the second-youngest to ever play in the Ranji Trophy for Bihar.

As young Vaibhav Suryavanshi got registered for his maiden India U-19 Test tour in September 2024 in Chennai against Australia. The young Bihar batter bludgeoned a 62-ball 104 before getting a runout. Vaibhav Suryavanshi is also included in the Indian team for the U-19 Asia Cup to be held in UAE. Even for, it is not a mature period for a fledgling cricketer like Vaibhav whose role model is Brian Lara.
