After a long-awaited two years, Vi finally launched 5G services. The rollout is selective and initially targets 17 of the largest telecom circles or regions, primarily Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Chennai. To all the prepaid and postpaid users, there is a connection to the internet through Vi’s 5G network.
Vi launches 5G on the 3.3GHz and 26GHz mmWave spectrum bands except for Bihar, where only the 3.3GHz band is available.

Vi Steps Up In The 5G Competition
Vi recently announced its 5G launch plan after a long delay, while Jio and Airtel have already started their 5G services. While Vi lagged due to financial and operating challenges, both competitors launched their 5G services immediately after the 2022 telecommunication auction. But they are now making aggressive moves. It has now moved its 5G target by three months forward from the earlier target of March 2025, and now it is aiming for a strong comeback in the race to dominate India’s telecom sector.
The company has 17 cities active with 5G and plans to extend the 5G service in the next few months. This launch is a major milestone in the company’s strategic development to reclaim a competitive advantage in the Indian telecom industry. Better connectivity and greater internet speeds are also expected to stimulate benefits for users and further solidify Vi’s competitive hold within the market.
