Vinayak Sreedhar who was suffering from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) passed away during his CBSE board exams. It is a genetic disorder characterized by progressive muscle degeneration and weakness. Stephen Hawking, a Legendary British theoretical physicist also suffered from motor neuron disease.
Vinayak was inspired by Stephen Hawkins and idolized him. He scored 96, 97 and 100 in three subjects he appeared for CBSE Class 10 Board Examinations. Sadly Vinayak Sreedhar was unable to appear for the rest of the papers as he passed away. Vinayak was the student of The Amity International School, Noida, appeared for the exams under General category and not under Children With Special Need (CWSN) category. He was a very talented boy and his scores read 100 in English, 97 in Sanskrit and 96 in Science. He was unable to appear for the remaining two subjects Social Studies and Computer Science.
His mother Mamta Sreedhar told PTI that,
“His muscular movement was very limited. He could write slowly but since there is a time duration for exams, he used a scribe to write English and Science exam. For Sanskrit, he insisted to write himself. His body movement was restricted and he was wheelchair-bound, but his mind was very sharp and aspirations very high.”
Mamta Sreedhar is a homemaker and Vinayak’s father is Vice President in CMR. Mamta Sreedhar told,
“I made this choice. My entire day revolved around him. From brushing his teeth to feeding him, I did it all myself but it was his willpower which always gave us the strength,”
Sreedhar wanted to become an astronaut. He told his mother,
“If Stephen Hawking could go to Oxford and make a name in Cosmology I can go to space too.”
He wanted to visit Rameswaram after his exams but unfortunately could not make it. This is really heartbreaking to read. Vinayak was having amazing willpower. His mother told that,
“We are today in Rameshwaram and are going for darshan in the evening. It was his unfulfilled wish so we decided to not postpone the plans and do it for him,”
Most of the people lose hope and unable to fight with situations and take steps like suicide. People like Vinayak Sreedhar will always be an inspiration to many students and people and his story will teach everyone that whatever be the situation is, one should Never Give Up. May his soul rest in peace and May God provides strength to his family.
