A day after her disqualification from the Paris Olympics, Vinesh Phogat announced her retirement from wrestling. She shared an emotional and heartbreaking post on X about her decision to retire. Addressing her mother Premlata, Vinesh, a three-time Olympian, wrote,

“Mom, wrestling won against me, I lost… Your dreams and my courage are shattered. I don’t have any more strength now. Goodbye Wrestling 2001-2024. I will forever be indebted to all of you. Please forgive (me).”

Vinesh Phogat was eligible to compete on Day 1. As per the rules, a wrestler must meet the weight limit on both days. Vinesh was found overweight on the day of the finale and she will be not eligible for the Silver medal either.

Vinesh began her tournament by defeating the 82 matches undefeated and defending champion Yui Susaki. Yui Susaki never lost a bout in her international career and is a four-time world champion.
