The new edition of IPL is going on. The IPL came as a breather for people as India is fighting with the second wave of the coronavirus. People are getting some sort of entertainment and the mind is getting diverted from the COVID-19. This year RCB and DC are playing superbly and yesterday there was a clash between the two teams. Delhi Capitals lost the match by just one run. Rishabh Pant is leading the Delhi Capitals franchise in absence of their regular captain Shreyas Iyer. In the last match, the questions were raised by former players like Virender Sehwag and Ashish Nehra on Rishabh Pant’s captaincy.
The biggest question was giving Marcus Stoinis to ball the last over of the match. Marcus Stoinis gave 23 runs in the final over. The bowler rotation has raised eyebrows as the experienced spinner of Delhi Capitals Amit Mishra had one over left. Virender Sehwag slammed Rishabh Pant for his poor captaincy. He said,
“I won’t give him even five marks out of 10 for his captaincy because you just can’t make such mistakes. If your main bowler isn’t bowling, your calculations go wrong – that’s what captaincy is all about. You need to take care of that. A captain must manage his bowling resources according to the situation.”
Virender Sehwag told a leading cricket portal,
“You need to learn that. Or else you hand over the ball to whomsoever you want. The capability of a skipper is measured by how he turns the game around. He needs to make changes in the bowling or field position accordingly.”

A former Indian opener added,
“So, if Rishabh Pant wants to become a good captain, he needs to keep these small things in his mind. Play smart cricket, then only you can become a smart skipper.”
The former Indian fast bowler Ashish Nehra added,
“The way Rishabh batted in the middle overs and the number of runs he missed out on during the death overs, that was nothing but a poor strategy. If Shimron Hetmyer had lost his wicket early, we could have seen DC losing by 25 runs.”
“They planned their chase poorly as two of your set batsmen returned unbeaten and you lost the game by 1 run. That shouldn’t have happened in this format.”
We certainly agree with Virender Sehwag. What do you guys think about Rishabh Pant’s captaincy? Can he have accelerated an over before, Delhi would have crossed the line? Let us know in the comments below.
