During the third ODI against Bangladesh, India captain Harmanpreet Kaur expressed her displeasure with the umpire’s judgment. She hit the stump with the bat after giving out. Continue to know what actually happened.
What Actually Happened?
During the decisive game of the ODI series featuring the women’s teams of India and Bangladesh, controversy broke out when Harmanpreet Kaur, the Indian captain, reacted in rage at being given out when her team attempted to score runs in Dhaka.
When Harmanpreet tried to sweep spinner Nahida Akter in the 34th over of the Indian inning, the event happened. The ball appeared to have missed her as it bounced off her pads and towards slip. Even before the fielder at slip managed to make the catch, Akter boldly pleaded for a leg before, and the umpire didn’t hesitate to raise his finger. The Indian captain, however, was incensed by the choice and immediately struck the stumps with her bat, adding to the indication that a bat was used. Harmanpreet argued with the umpire even as she made her way back to the pavilion.

The Match Was A Tie
The removal of the India skipper ultimately led to a batting collapse, as India lost their next five wickets in a span of 34 runs after Harleen Deol (77) was also bowled out. Meghna Singh, the no. 11 batswoman, stole the third delivery in the last over for a straightforward catch by wicketkeeper Nigar Sultana, tying the game. Jemimah Rodrigues, who lasted at the wicket during the collapse, was still undefeated after 33 balls.
Fargana Hoque’s 107 earlier in the match helped Bangladesh reach 225/4 in 50 overs. Sneh Rana, who finished with stats of 2/45 in 10 overs, was India’s best bowler.
After Shafali Verma (4) and Yastika Bhatia (5) were out early in the innings, Smriti Mandhana (59) and Harleen put up a 107-run to help their team win the run chase. Harmanpreet was taken to the crease after Mandhana was dismissed. She appeared to be in good shape until she was dismissed in the 34th.
Harmanpreet Lashes Out At Post-Match Presentation
During the post-match presentation, Harmanpreet Kaur questioned umpiring in Bangladesh. She said,
“I think a lot of learning for us from the game. Even apart from the cricket, the kind of umpiring that was happening we were very surprised. The next time when we come to Bangladesh we will make sure we have to deal with this type of umpiring and prepare ourselves accordingly.”
“They (Bangladesh) batted really well, batted according to the situation. They were taking those singles which were very crucial. In between we leaked a few runs but when we were batting, we controlled the game very well but as I mentioned earlier some pathetic umpiring was done and we are really disappointed about some decisions given by the umpires.”
“Bring the umpires too.”
“Why you are only here? You haven’t tied the match. The umpires did it for you. Call them up! We better have photo with them as well.”
