Flights and planes are matters that need careful planning and execution. A minor mismanagement can lead to serious disaster costing lives of many and resources of huge amounts. Recently, a video of an IndiGo plane touchdown on the runway of Air India‘s take-off was released. The planes were seen dangerously close to each other. Continue reading to know more about the incident.

IndiGo Touchdown On Air India’s Take-Off Runway

Numerous passengers had an extraordinarily close brush at Mumbai Airport on 8th June 2024 when an IndiGo plane touched down on the same runway from where Air India’s plane was scheduled to take off. This was on the evening of 8th June when two Airbus A320neos came uncomfortably close to each other. The Directorate of Civil Aviation initiated an investigation regarding the same.

In a video that surfaced online, both planes can be seen on the same runway. The IndiGo aircraft is spotted landing shortly after the Air India aircraft takes off. The Air India Airbus reportedly made it into the air and took off without any problems, but it was possibly not aware of the other aircraft coming from behind on the same runway it took off from.

According to the reports of an aviation news outlet, Simple Flying, the IndiGo flight took off from Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport and landed on Runway 27, while the Air India flight took off for the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport.

IndiGo released a statement informing that the pilot of the respective plane followed the ATC’s instructions. Here’s IndiGo’s stance:

“On Jun 8, 2024 IndiGo flight 6E 6053 from Indore was given landing clearance by ATC at Mumbai Airport. The Pilot in Command continued the approach and landing and followed ATC instructions. At IndiGo, passenger safety is paramount to us, and we have reported the incident as per procedure.”

Surprisingly, Air India stated the same. It confirmed how ATC gave the clearance.

“AI657 from Mumbai to Trivandrum was on take-off roll on June 8. The Air India aircraft was cleared by Air Traffic Control to enter the runway and subsequently cleared for take-off. The Air India aircraft continued with the take-off movement in accordance with laid down procedures. An investigation has been initiated by the authorities to find out more on the clearance given to the airlines.”
