Navdeep has faced many challenges in his life, which include harsh taunts and insults due to dwarfism. He is four feet, four inches tall. He was often teased with names like ‘Bauna.’ But he never took it to his head and always chose the positive path. His parents soon understood he had dwarfism issues, but Dalbir Singh (father), a national-level wrestler, never setback and always supported Navdeep.

Navdeep started his journey in 2016 when he was inspired by Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra. Navdeep focused on the para-javelin throw. He was inspired by Para-athlete Sandeep Chaudhary. Navdeep is 23 years old and competed in the F41 category. This category is for those athletes who are of short stature. In 2024, Navdeep won gold at the Paris Paralympics with a personal best throw of 47.32 meters. Navdeep was initially declared a silver medalist, which was later upgraded to gold. It was due to Sadegh Bait Sayah’s disqualification for violating the code of conduct.

Speaking to the Paralympic Committee of India, Navdeep expressed his thoughts on equality; he said, “We deserve the same respect; I too have brought glory to the country.” He even added, saying his target is to change the perception of society. He said people with disabilities should not be mocked.

With so much pride, he concluded by saying, “We can also make our country proud.”

This achievement has shut out all the critics and proved that hard work and self-belief pay off.
