Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the continuing issue around the film ‘The Kerala Story’ during his election campaign in Bellary, Karnataka. The film ‘The Kerala Story‘ has caused quite a stir throughout the country. It was released on May 5, 2023, and claims to be based on a true story. The movie features Adah Sharma, Sonia Balani, Yogita Bihani, and Siddhi Idnani. Sudipto Sen’s film has also sparked a political uproar. On social media, netizens are divided based on their reactions to the film. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan labeled it a propaganda film. Even the censor board made ten edits to the film before awarding it an A Certificate.
The Kerala High Court Refuses To Issue A Stay Order Against The Kerala Story
The Kerala High Court rejected the request to issue a stay order for the film’s release on May 5. During the hearing, the court questioned the petitioners about which part of the movie was anti-Islamic. Finally, the court decided not to prevent the film’s publication, noting that the claims in the movie were not directed at any one religion but rather at terrorist organizations. Justice Nagaresh stated while refusing to grant an interim order,
“There is something called freedom of speech and expression. They have artistic freedom, we have to balance that also. What is there in the film that is against Islam? There is no allegation against a religion, but only against the organization ISIS.”
PM Modi’s View On ‘The Kerala Story’
Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned the film ‘The Kerala Story’ during a rally in Ballari, Karnataka, which is due to host elections, and said that the Congress party is seeking to obstruct the film’s release. He said,
“The movie ‘The Kerala story’ is trying to expose the consequences of terrorism in a society, especially in a state like Kerala which is beautiful land of hardworking, talented and intellectual people. The Congress party is now trying to ban the film and support the terror elements. It only knows to ban things and completely ignore development. The party even has a problem with me chanting ‘Jai Bajarang Bali’ “
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the other party, Congress, is standing with terrorism by opposing the film. He appreciated the film and said the movie had exposed this new face of terrorism. PM Modi added,
“Terrorism has taken a new form now. Apart from using weapons and bombs, they are working towards making society hollow from the inside out. ‘The Kerala Story’ movie has exposed this new face of terrorism. The Congress has kneeled down before the terror outfits when in power. We have suffered because of the violence for very long, and Congress never protected this country from terrorism. Can the Congress protect Karnataka?”
The film is tax-free in Madhya Pradesh; other states may soon follow. With Rs 35 to Rs 40 crore weekend in mind, the Saturday and Sunday collections might soar through the roof. The Kerala Story is on the verge of becoming a Blockbuster.
