A left-handed opener Shikhar Dhawan announced his retirement from domestic and international cricket on Saturday. He took to X and posted an emotional video for the fans announcing his retirement from all forms of cricket. Shikhar Dhawan last played for Team India in 2022 against Bangladesh in an ODI series. Popularly known as Gabbar, Shikhar Dhawan has made a name for himself as an explosive opener batter. He is known as Mr. ICC for performing exceptionally well in ICC tournaments.
Shikhar Dhawan Retires From International And Domestic Cricket
He is one of the most formidable left-handed white ball openers for Team India. He is now 38. Shikhar clarified that although he’s walking away from India colors, he hinted at continuing in league cricket mostly the IPL. Shikhar Dhawan played 167 ODIs, 34 Tests, and 68 ODIs for Team India. In total 269 appearances for Team India, Shikhar smashed a total of 10867 runs including 24 centuries, and 44 fifties. Shikhar shared a video on social media and said,
“I am standing at a point where when I look back, I only see memories and a new life when I look forward. It was always my dream to play for India, and I got to live it. I am thankful to a lot of people for that. First of all, my family, my childhood coaches and then my team that I played with for so many years. I got a new family, fame and love. But it is said that to move forward, you need to flip the pages.”

He added,
“I am announcing my retirement from international and domestic cricket. As I bid farewell to my cricketing journey, I have peace in my heart. I played a lot for my country. I only say this to myself, that you don’t need to be upset about not playing for your country again, but be happy that you had the opportunity to do so.”
Shikhar Dhawan’s best came in the 50-over format. In ODIs, he smashed 6793 runs at an average of 44.11. In Tests, he averaged 40.61 and scored 2315 runs. Thank You, Gabbar for all the memories.
