In a spectacle that captivated millions worldwide, the grand opening of Ayodhya’s Ram Temple marked a historic moment in India’s religious landscape. It ushered in an intriguing blend of tradition and mystique.
The Mysterious Arrival Of Ram Lalla
Decades before the resplendent temple stood tall, the saga began on a December night in 1949 when a Ram idol mysteriously appeared inside the Babri Masjid. Witnesses claimed to have seen the divine presence, setting off a chain of events that would shape the region’s history. This enigmatic idol, now an integral part of Ayodhya’s lore, has been housed in a makeshift tent-like structure for over seven decades. Fast forward to the present day, and Ayodhya witnesses the grand ‘Pran Pratishtha‘ ceremony. A new 51-inch black stone idol, crafted by Mysuru-based artist Arun Yogiraj, takes center stage. He was adorned in a yellow dhoti, a golden crown, necklaces, and wielding a golden bow and arrow. This new Ram Lalla symbolizes a fresh chapter in the city’s rich history.
Old Meets New In The Temple
In a symbolic move, the old Ram Lalla idol has silently witnessed the legal battles. The religious fervor surrounding its origin is set to join the new idol inside the grand temple. Seated on a throne opposite the new deity, the old idol will find its place in the sanctum sanctorum. Therefore, it brings together two significant chapters of Ayodhya’s spiritual journey.
A Divine Transition
Nripendra Misra, the temple construction committee chairman, shares insights into the transitional phase. “The idol, currently in a temporary temple, will gracefully move to the Garbha Griha (sanctum sanctorum) after priestly rituals,” he reveals. This divine transition symbolizes not just the physical movement of the idol but the spiritual evolution that Ayodhya is undergoing.
A Celestial Diwali In Ayodhya
As the grand temple’s first phase unfolds, the festivities ripple across India. Thus prompting states to declare holidays, stock markets to close, and homes to illuminate. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is leading the ‘Pran Pratishta’ proceedings. It also urges the nation to celebrate this divine homecoming as a Diwali festival, with both the new and old idols gracing the singhasan. Ayodhya’s Ram Temple emerges as a religious marvel and a testament to the city’s enduring spirit and vibrant history.
