On the morning of June 25, 2023, two Indian Railways freight trains collided at the Onda railway station in Bankura. According to the images, the accident caused numerous wagons and also the engine of a goods train to derail. Read on to know more.
Ramification Of The Accident
As of now, eleven trains have been canceled. According to a South Eastern Railway official, the goods train (BCN) surpasses the red signal. Further, it collided with the BRN maintenance train.
CPRO South Eastern Railway’s Statement
“A goods train was standing in the loop line, and another train was supposed to stop at the signal, but it overshot the red signal, leading to derailment. Restoration work was completed around 7.30 a.m., and the first train has been moved from the site at around 8.30 a.m. Currently, 11 trains have been canceled,” CPRO South Eastern Railway, Aditya Kumar Chaudhary informed ANI.
The Train Accident
The UP Mail Line and UP Loop Line have been fixed, and train travel has resumed. According to the preliminary inquiry, one of the freight trains failed to stop on time and collided with another maintenance train.
The terrible accident occurred only weeks after the Coromandel Express and two other trains collided in Odisha‘s Balasore. At least 275 people were killed and injured, and 1,000 more.
According to a report presented to the Railway Board, the Coromandel Express was moving at 128 kmph from Shalimar to Chennai Central when a probable signaling failure routed the train to the loop line rather than the main line immediately in front of the Bahanagar Bazar railway station. The express train then collided with a stopped good train on the loop route. Moreover, it scattered 4-5 coaches on the next track.
At the same time, the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express was traveling at 116 kmph. After colliding with the coaches of the Coromandel Express, which had scattered on the next track, the coaches of the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express collapsed.
