The streets of India are filled with children’s laughing, aromas of street food, merchants hawking their wares, and beggars. Yes, you read that correctly. People who are typically poor, do not work for a living, and are unable to maintain their clothing and fill their stomachs on the streets beg and ask for money from well-off people. However, some people have turned begging into a successful and rewarding business, elevating begging to a new level. According to a report by the Economic Times, Bharat Jain is the world’s richest beggar. He can be spotted begging on the Mumbai streets. Continue reading to know more about it.
Bharat Jain, ‘World’s Richest Beggar’
Jain was unable to continue formal education due to monetary difficulties. He is a married man with a family consisting of his wife, two boys, his brother, and his father.
In Parel, Jain and his family reside in a duplex apartment with one bedroom. His children have finished their schooling at a convent school. His other relatives own a stationery shop. They constantly tell Jain to stop begging, but he doesn’t listen to them and keeps doing it.
Bharat Jain’s Earnings
Jain has amassed a net worth of 7.5 crore despite his modest origins. His begging income fluctuates between 60,000 and 75,000 rupees every month.
Additionally, he owns two stores in Thane that rent for rupees 30,000 a month and a 2BHK flat in Mumbai that is worth 1.2 crore rupees. According to reports, Jain begs in well-known areas like Azad Maidan or Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT).
Despite being such a wealthy man, Jain nonetheless continues to beg on the streets of the financial capital. Jain is able to make between 2,000 and 2,500 rupees a day in a matter of 10 to 12 hours, owing to the kindness of others.
Who would have guessed that one day, begging would turn out to be a lucrative business? Bharat Jain makes more than enough merely by begging in a society where others struggle to get enough money while working so hard and for long hours. It becomes even more shocking as Mumbai Is Reported To Be Asia’s Most Expensive Cities To Rent Or Buy A House.
It also raises a lot of questions. What was the need for begging despite being a rich man? Is it justified for a rich man without any physical disparity to beg? Doesn’t this equal not valuing people’s kindness and taking advantage of it?
