What Actually Happened?
A “whistleblower” has been accused by the Justice Department of trafficking in weapons, acting as a Chinese agent abroad, and also violating Iranian sanctions. In 2016, Luft, a dual citizen of the United States and Israel, was accused of paying a former Donald Trump assistant a bribe on their behalf without disclosing that he was acting as a foreign agent.

Prosecution’s Take On This
The prosecution claims that Luft urged the unidentified former government employee to advocate for Chinese-friendly policies. They also assert that he set up conferences with Iranian and Chinese energy company representatives to discuss oil deals that would break US sanctions.
In February, the 57-year-old Luft was arrested in Cyprus. But he escaped after being granted bail and is not now incarcerated in the US. According to US Attorney for the Southern District of New York Damian Williams, Luft “engaged in numerous, serious criminal schemes.”
What Does Gal Luft Have To Say In His Defence?
The criminal investigation, according to Luft, is a political witch hunt intended to keep him from testifying before the House Oversight Committee regarding the Bidens’ use of an FBI informant who shared private information with their supporters at the China-controlled energy company CEFC and the first family’s receipt of payments from individuals with ties to Chinese military intelligence.
“I, who volunteered to inform the US government about a potential security breach and about compromising information about a man vying for the next president, am now being hunted by the very same people who I informed — and may have to live on the run for the rest of my life,” Luft said in a video published by The Post last week.
