PM Modi is in the country for the Forum for India-Pacific Island Cooperation (FPIC). BJP national spokesman Sambit Patra tweeted in response to James Marape’s “remarkable gesture” for PM Modi.

PM Modi is grateful to the PM of PNG for meeting him at the airport. It is a really meaningful gesture for him that he will never forget. He tweets about his ecstasy.
Following his meeting with James Marape, Prime Minister Modi posted on Twitter. He wrote,
“Prime Minister James Marape and I had very productive talks, covering the full range of bilateral relations between India and Papua New Guinea. We discussed ways to augment cooperation in commerce, technology, healthcare, and in addressing climate change.”
Who Is James Marape?
James Marape, a member of the PANGU Pati political party, has held the position since 2019. The 52-year-old made a distinction for Prime Minister Modi and has not done so for any other international leader.
In 1993, James Marape earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Papua New Guinea. He also holds a Postgraduate Honours degree in Environmental Science as well as a Master of Business Administration.
He is the island nation’s eighth prime minister, holding several essential cabinet roles in previous regimes. Additionally, he served as parliamentary secretary for works and transport and as a member of the parliamentary inter-government relations referral committee. In 2019, he quit the People’s National Congress Party and entered the Pangu PATI. According to the Guardian, there was a failed attempt in 2020 to destabilize his administration through a no-confidence motion.
