Fresh out of college, Riti said she decided to follow her gut feeling instead of doing what others expected. She was offered a package of Rs 17 lakh per annum but rejected it for an internship. The internship offered her a mere sum of Rs 85,000 per month. This was much less than some companies were willing to provide her. Eventually, Walmart offered that girl a job with an annual package of Rs 20 lakh. Riti stated,

“I listened to my heart, took the internship offer at Walmart, worked very hard, gave my pre-placement offer interviews, and ultimately got a job offer from Walmart.”

In an interview, she shared that she wanted to gain practical experience and learn new skills. Riti felt that the internship would provide this. She further added she was inspired by the work culture at Walmart Labs and the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies.

Riti was inspired by her elder sister, Preeti Kumari, in making the decision. Preeti is currently pursuing her Ph.D. degree from IIT Dhanbad. Moreover, Preeti also rejected various job offers from reputed companies to prepare for GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) instead.

Her parents were also apprehensive about her decision to opt for an internship rather than a well-paying job. Riti’s story has inspired many professionals to prioritize learning and skill development over immediate financial gain.

In the long run, the decision to take a risk and pursue an internship has paid off. Her story serves as a reminder that success should not be measured with financial gain but with experiences and skills gained over time. Further, it also highlights the importance of making career choices and pursuing opportunities that align with our interests and goals. What do you think about Riti’s career decisions?
