Walt Nauta had served in the Navy for almost a decade. He was sealed in 2012 to join the White House’s presidential food service command. He served in that capacity throughout President Barack Obama’s second term and continued to do so throughout President Trump’s tenure. Nauta first joined the Navy in 2001, just two weeks after the horrific events of the 9/11 terror attacks.

Following his first training, Nauta served at several Navy bases in California and Georgia. He was also stationed on the aircraft carrier USS John F. Kennedy and the frigate USS Taylor. Throughout his military career, Nauta received numerous awards and commendations for his service. Five Navy and Marine Corps Achievement medals and seven good conduct awards were among them. Nauta had amassed an impressive service record by the time he retired.

According to the accusation, Nauta was aware that former President Trump had sensitive documents held at his Florida golf club since at least December 7, 2021. Moreover, Nauta discovered many boxes belonging to Trump. Their contents were spread on the floor of a storage room that day. He took a photo of the data labeled “CONFIDENTIAL” and texted it to a fellow Trump staffer, saying, “I opened the door and found this.”

The indictment further claims that Nauta and an unnamed Trump employee moved some of the boxes from the storage facility to Trump’s residence between November 2021 and January 2022. The goal of this move was to provide Twith rump the opportunity to inspect the contents of the boxes.

However,  Nauta said to FBI agents investigating the document issue in May 2022 that he had no idea of Trump’s involvement in bringing the boxes to his residence for examination. This was in contrast to the fact that 15 of those boxes were later turned over to the National Archives and Records Administration in January of the same year.

Charges Faced By Walt Nauta

Nauta has been charged alongside Trump for alleged mismanagement of national security documents. Nauta was accused of conspiracy to obstruct justice, withholding records, concealing papers, and making false statements, among other things.

In reaction to the allegations, former President Trump supported Nauta on his social media platform. Family members described Nauta as a “good boy.” Furthermore,  he was a boy who traveled to the United States with the goal of enjoying his life rather than causing problems.
