The Unfortunate Accident
Paul was involved in a seven-vehicle collision earlier this week in Melancthon Township, about 60 miles northwest of Toronto. Shortly after 3 p.m. local time, a truck that was out of control plowed through an area of construction and collided with a series of vehicles after failing to stop in time. Paul was declared dead on the spot.
Her little son, who was also in the vehicle, had non-life-threatening injuries and was brought to a nearby hospital. A 67-year-old man who suffered significant injuries was taken to a trauma facility in Toronto along with three other victims of the collision.

After finishing third in junior ice dancing with Jason Cheperdak at the 2009 Canadian Championships, Paul sought a new partner. Paul audited successfully with Islam, a fellow skater at the Mariposa School of Skating in Barrie, Ontario, in February 2009. During the 2009-2010 season, the couple began competing together. 2010, they took silver at the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships.
During their senior career, they also won bronze medals in the Canadian national championships in 2011, 2014, and 2015. They also competed in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, finishing 18th in the mixed ice dance event.
After retiring from skating, Paul obtained a law diploma and started a practicing attorney in 2021. “We will miss her joyful personality and intense passion for work and family. She was kind, curious, and driven in every endeavor she pursued,” her firm, Barriston Law, said after her death.
