Who Was Marimuthu?
Marimuthu was a 57-year-old actor. He hailed from Varusanadu in the Theni district. He used to live with his wife, Bhagyalakshmi, son Akilan, and daughter Ishwarya. Moreover, the director had a long association with the film industry. But he spent most of his time behind the camera. He was the director of many famous movies in the South. Namely, Kannum Kannum, Pulivaal, and many more. Earlier, he worked as an assistant director with Mani Ratnam, Seeman, Vasanth, and S J Suriya. Moreover, he assisted Rajkiran in making “Aranmanaikili” and “Ellaame En Rasaadhan.”
However, he suffered a cardiac arrest on 8 September 2023. Further, Marimuthu reportedly fell uneasy while dubbing for a Tamil TV serial and was rushed to a hospital. He was a well-known personality and was seen in various movies and telefilms.

After the news of death came out, prayers and condolences started to pour in from the Tamil film industry. A well-known actor, Prasanna penned an X note,
“Deeply shattered to know the passing away of director G Marimuthu. We did #KannumKannum and #Pulivaal together. We had a brother-like bond. We agreed to disagree on many. His life wasn’t easy at all. As an actor, finally, he was doing very well. He should’ve been there for a while longer. Sad. Rip.”
