Who Was Yagmur Ozden? A Range Rover Driver Killed A Beautician In An Accident

Although ‘humanity’ is said to transcend all other things, this does not seem to be the guiding principle of the materialistic society we live in today. Nowadays, people are driven by materialistic pleasure. Love, courteousness, and generosity have replaced selfishness, arrogance, and concern about others’ opinions. Humans do not value human lives.

In today’s society, it appears that materialistic, transient objects matter more than human lives.

The recent case of a Range Rover driver killing a beautician in a 110 mph accident while showing off is heinous and shocking.

An automobile driver who ran out of control of his Range Rover while “showing off” at speeds up to 110 mph and killed a beautician has been sentenced to more than seven years in prison.

Yagmur Ozden and the driver Rida Kazem were flung from the car when it crashed through a Tesla shop and ended up on a West London railway track. Ozden later succumbed to her injuries.

Only one other passenger, 26-year-old Zamarod Arif, was restrained at the time, and he suffered significant injuries, including a fractured arm and leg.

In the wee hours of August 22, 2022, Kazem, whose left leg was severed below the knee after the collision, was transporting the two women back from a night out.

Ms. Ozden’s family members sobbed as surveillance video of what happened was shown at Isleworth Crown Court in West London.

Before losing control, Kazem’s black Range Rover Sport SVR, worth £180,000, was recorded reaching a high speed of 110 mph on the westbound 40 mph limit A40 in Ealing, Greater London.

Judge Martin Edmunds KC’s Judgement

Judge Martin Edmunds KC sentenced him to a total of seven and a half years in jail. In addition, he was given a 12-year driving prohibition in addition to serving at least two-thirds of the sentence. The judge stated.

The speed and violence of this unfolding crash are horrific. According to the judge, the driver was showing off his powerful car and thought he had experienced driving skills, but in the end, his skills are not proper for driving.

Kazem In The Court

Kazem approached the dock on crutches in front of a courtroom full of members of his family as well as those associated with the victim while wearing dark tracksuit pants and a white T-shirt.

After being given his punishment, he grinned at the audience in the gallery and walked out without his crutches.

According to prosecutor Nicholas Hearn, he has a history of speeding convictions, including one for doing 95 mph in a 50 mph zone, for which he received a six-month driving restriction in November 2020.

Kazem sat still and gazed straight ahead as the attorney for the prosecution delivered victim impact statements, including one from the 13-year-old child of  Ms. Ozden.

Kazem’s Previous Offences

Rida Kazem had two prior speeding convictions. The most current of which saw him going at 95mph on a 50mph route, for which he was disqualified by the court. However, this driving prohibition expired in June 2022, just months before the deadly accident in August 2022.

Victim’s Family Isn’t Happy With The Judgement

The court was made aware Kazem told the author of a pre-sentence report and his psychologist that he had not been driving the Range Rover, and the judge stated that he had “found no evidence of genuine remorse.”

However, defense attorney David Rhodes stated that Kazem, who worked for a family jewelry company and had been accepted into a university law program, “accepts through his guilty pleas that he was the driver.”

“He knows he has taken a life in Yagmur Ozden and left a young girl without a mother, and he knows he very nearly killed himself in that accident,” he added.

Melek remarked outside court following the sentencing,

“I’m not really happy with the sentence today, but I really did feel sorry for him.”
