This tunnel guarantees all-weather connectivity between Assam and Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh. It adeptly overcomes the challenges presented by harsh and extreme weather conditions.

Excavated below the formidable Sela Pass on NH-13, the tunnel comprises two sections. Tunnel 1 is a 980-meter-long single-tube marvel, while Tunnel 2 is an impressive twin-tube structure exceeding 1.5 kilometers. Thanks to the Border Roads Organisation’s (BRO) meticulous execution under Project Vartak, commuters will now bypass the perilous snow-covered Sela top at 13,700 feet.

Launched in February 2019 by Prime Minister Modi, the project, estimated at Rs. 697 crore, saw its first blast at Tunnel 2’s Portal 4 on October 31, 2019. Under the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative, the Bi-Lane exemplifies rapid construction and technological prowess. It promises to redefine travel and connectivity in the region.
