YouTube Launches New Tools To Identify AI-Generated Videos

YouTube, which is owned by Google, is developing tools for the detection of AI-generated faces and videos. The tools will detect the videos made from artificial intelligence technology. The company’s vice president of creator products, Amjad Hanif, said in a blog,

“As AI technology continues to evolve, creating new opportunities for creators to produce unique content, it also introduces new risks around deep fakes, misinformation, and synthetic media.”

What Is Content ID Feature For YouTube?

Content ID is one of the features for YouTube videos. It will automatically detect AI-generated content. In the blog post, Hanif said,

“It will allow partners to automatically detect and manage AI-generated content on YouTube that simulates their singing voices.”

He added,

“Second, we’re actively developing new technology that will enable people from a variety of industries—from creators and actors to musicians and athletes—to detect and manage AI-generated content showing their faces on YouTube.”

Hanif also discussed the sensitive topic of content usage by YouTube and its parent company, Google. He said that user-uploaded videos are being utilized to enhance the platform’s content experience through machine learning and AI development.

Moreover, it was said in the blog post that YouTube established protective measures for its proprietary generative AI tools, such as Dream Screen. He added,

“AI is opening up a world of possibilities, empowering creators to express themselves in innovative and exciting ways. At YouTube, we’re committed to ensuring our creators and partners thrive in this evolving landscape. This means equipping them with the tools they need to harness AI’s creative potential while maintaining control over how their likeness, including their face and voice, is represented.”

How The Concern Will Be Addressed?

To address this concern, over the coming months, YouTube will introduce updates that inform viewers when the content they’re seeing is authentic. YouTube will also be informing viewers that content may be altered in two ways. A new label will be added to the description panel, indicating that some of the content was altered or synthetic. For certain types of content about sensitive topics, they will apply a more prominent label to the video player. There will be some areas where a label alone may not be enough to mitigate the risk of harm, and some synthetic media, regardless of whether it’s labeled, will be removed from the platform if it violates YouTube Community Guidelines.

New Options For Creators, Viewers, And Artists

So, in the coming months, they will make it possible to request the removal of AI-generated or other synthetic or altered content that simulates an identifiable individual, including their face or voice, using the privacy request process. Not all content will be removed from YouTube, and they will surely consider a variety of factors when evaluating these requests. YouTube will surely add new features soon for the betterment of users.
