Major food delivery services Swiggy and Zomato have increased their platform fees once more. On both applications, customers must now pay Rs 6 for an order, up from Rs 5 before. This is a 20% increase. It is being charged in Bengaluru and Delhi. The fee is separate from other fees like handling, goods and services tax, restaurant, and delivery charges.

Even if a consumer is registered in one of the two firms’ many loyalty or membership programs, it is still charged on all meal orders. The money is sent to the business immediately, which supports revenue growth and expense containment. The new hike in platform fees will be gradually rolled out across the entire nation. Through the increase in the rates, the food delivery apps aim to generate revenue of Rs 1.25-1.5 Crore each day.

The new hike rates have not been implemented on Instamart and blinkit yet. Zepto, on the other hand, is a good competitor of Blinkit and Instamart who introduced the platform fee. It is the first delivery start-up to introduce a platform fee. Zepto introduced the modification this year in March.

If history is any evidence, this is not the first time that Zomato and Swiggy have increased the platform fee. According to reports Swiggy was the first to start collecting a Rs 2 platform charge in April 2023. Zomato did likewise in August. Since then, there has been no discernible impact on order quantities from the two competitors raising the cost because customers are happy to pay it. Zomato even took a platform fee of Rs 9 for every order during busy hours. As previously reported, Swiggy has also tried Rs 10 for consumers in Bengaluru, Delhi, Hyderabad, and other cities.
