Big news from Zomato! The popular food and grocery delivery company announced on Thursday that it’s changing its name to ‘Eternal’ and even revealed a fresh new logo. This decision came after more than two years of the company using the name internally.

In a letter to shareholders, Zomato’s CEO, Deepinder Goyal, shared that the company’s board has already approved this name change. Now, they’re asking the shareholders that they should support this decision as well.
“If everything goes as planned, our website will change from zomato.com to eternal.com. Our stock ticker will also switch from ZOMATO to ETERNAL,” Goyal wrote. He added that Eternal will now include four big businesses: Zomato, Blinkit, District, and Hyperpure.
Why The Name Change?

Deepinder Goyal wrote about a small bit of history with Zomato in his letter. He also mentioned how Foodiebay transformed into Zomato. Further, Zomato became the first Indian startup to join the BSE Sensex on December 23, 2024.
“This journey has made a lot of money—not just for me, but for our employees, investors, and people who bought our stocks. But I didn’t start Zomato to make money. I started it because I wanted to do something meaningful with my life,” Goyal said.
He further stated how it all started by collecting takeaway menus from different places and uploading them on a website. “I never thought it would turn into a business. I just wanted to help people,” he said; he wasn’t even trying to make money.
Why ‘Eternal’?

The name first started being used inside the company after Zomato bought Blinkit. They needed a way to separate the company name from the Zomato app itself.
“We decided we’d only change the name publicly when something besides Zomato became a big part of our future. And now, with Blinkit growing fast, we feel like that time has come,” Goyal wrote.
He admitted the new name feels like a big deal. “Eternal is a strong name, and honestly, it scares me a little. It’s a big responsibility to live up to. Being ‘eternal’ isn’t about bragging or thinking we’ll always succeed. It’s about doing things that truly last,” he said.
What Happens Next?

If everything is approved, Zomato Ltd. will officially become Eternal Ltd. But don’t worry—the Zomato app that you use to order food isn’t going anywhere! It will still be around, just under the Eternal company, along with Blinkit, District, and Hyperpure.
This change shows that Zomato (now Eternal) is looking at bigger things beyond just food delivery. They’re expanding into other businesses and planning for the future.
